LVFD History

  • On July 17, 1947, the Lutcher Volunteer Fire Deparment, an organization previously gotten together by civic minded citizens of the Town of Lutcher for the purpose of carrying out a program of organizing and equippping a fire department which would work out efficiently in care of fires, decided to reorganize and accept the first by-laws of the official Lutcher Volunteer Fire Department.  This marks the actual beginning of the official Lutcher Volunteer Fire Department which remains a healthy organization today.
  • On November 17, 1947, the Lutcher Volunteer Fire Department held a meeting to elect it's officers.  Mr. Joseph Amato was appointed Fire Chief. 
  • On November 23, 1947, Fire Chief Joseph Amato appointed Mr. Roy Bourgeois as First Fire Chief, and Mr. Linden Melancon as Second Fire Chief. 
  • On April 6, 1964, Mr. PJ Amato was nomiated and elected by the membership as the new Fire Chief.
  • On October 1, 2007, Mr. Jason Amato was nomiated and elected by the membership as the new Fire Chief, succeeding his father PJ Amato who passed away on August 24, 2007.
